About The Course

INCEPTION

• The Department of Tamil was established in 1996 and B.A Tamil has been offered since 2020. The department is formally engaged in providing a holistic approach to life through language and communication, to the Undergraduates. The department is focused on enabling students to build an empathetic outlook through the study of literature

OBJECTIVE

• The Department of Tamil aims at providing a sound understanding of tamil culture through tamil literature and to encourage in students a love for the language which is a treasure house of literature, folklore and history.  
• It aims to infuse in students ethical values embedded in tamil literature and inculcate in them a pride in the diverse culture. 
• The department will also focus on aspects of linguistics, communication, grammar and translation.  
• Students will be exposed to a course in journalism as well. They will be trained to excel in speaking and writing so as to seek good placements.

• A well-stocked library is available for the use of students.  

ACTIVITIES

The department encourages students to participate in several competitions. Guest lectures are frequently organized to give students a wide exposure to a variety of topics and speakers.

QUIZ COMPETITION (AKAVAYA MANRA POTTIKAL)

On the 12/05/2020 to 15/05/2020 for five days our college conducted a quiz competition on the topic of “Let’s learn Thirukural“ with the aim of making college students learn Thirukural in which 460 students participated and benefited.

ALL FORUM CONTESTS

• On 19th, 20th and 21st May, an online quiz titled 'covid 19' was held with the aim of creating awareness about the pandemic, 1030 students participated.
• Between 02/6/2020 and 06/6/2020 the Department of Tamil, conducted various competitions such as, essay, painting and poetry. These were held online and more than 70 students participated.

SPECIAL SPEAKER

On 13/6/2020 at 3.00 pm Dr. P. Selvasanmugam (M.D (Siddha), Ph.D., President, World Siddha Trust, Secretary Health India Foundation, Research Professor, World Institute of Scientific Exploration USA, Professor, Vetha Centre for Transdisciplinary Studies, Newark, USA) delivered a talk. The Webinar saw around 600 participants.

Prof. Dr. Venkateswaran was the special guest at the seminar on "Food and Life on behalf of the Tamil Industry Cycle Two" on 20/6/2020.

Dr. S. Kumaran ,Professor , Department of Indian Studies, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia gave a lecture on Malaysian Literature and education in Tamil”.

A four-day online seminar on 'Tamil Literature' was held from 15/7/2020 to 18/7/ 2020. Prof. C. Muthuch Cheliyan, Mr. Sivanumanokaran, Professor, Dikoya College of Fine Arts, Sri Lanka, Mr. Lakshminathan, Vice President, Muthamil Solvendar Forum, Bahrain participated.

FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS:

• On 31/7/ 2020 Our College along with Sentamil and Solvender organizations conducted a global seminar on 'Who Created the Most Literary Film Songs' in which Assistant Professor Dr.Satyapriya gave a talk on 'Literary Film Songs Contributed by “Vairamuthu”.  
• Dr. Satyapriya addressed a seminar on behalf of the Tolkappiyar Council on 11/8/2020 in Coimbatore on the topic “Tolkappiyam showing pedagogy”.“Tamil Development Department- Tamilnadu” and “ World Tamil Research Institute- Chennai” jointly organized Kavithaigalil kalisorkal competition on 27.12.2020. First Year Student Sneha participated and presented a Paper.

STUDENTS ACHIEVMENTS:
