The Department of English was established in 1996 and B.A English has been offered since 2004
OBJECTIVES
- English Department provides a strong foundation in Literature and enables the students to have a deeper understanding of literary and cultural theories from World Literatures. The main focus is on British, American, Post-colonial literatures, Literary theories and also on the linguistic aspect of the language.
- The course emphasizes on the richness and diversity of the social and ethical values in literature and their response to those values. It also inculcates interest in students to learn the language and appreciate literature and develops confidence and competence in spoken and written expression

DEPARTMENT LIBRARY AND LANGUAGE LAB
A well-stocked department library is available for the students and faculty.
Language Lab has 30 computers and provides an opportunity to the students to improve their language skills.
BRIDGE COURSE
The bridge course is offered to the 1 year students. They were briefed about the college, syllabus, curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the college.
CERTIFICATE COURSE
A certificate course on Report writing for a duration of 30 hours is offered in the 3rd semester.
SEMINARS, CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS
- A National webinar on “Contemporary Trends in English Literature” was organized on 12-01-2023. The resource persons were Dr. Swarna Latha, Ms.Gayathri, Dr. Smitha Narayanan and Dr. Laly Mathew.
- National Workshop on “Relevance of English in Business Correspondence” was held on 05-01-2023. The resource person was Dr. Sumathi Shivakumar.
Guest Lectures
A guest lecture on “Learning Language Through Literature” was organizes on 06-09-2022. The resource person was K.N Shoba.

- Yamini of II MA participated in the Youthtalk competition organised by the ICT Academy on the 27th of September2022and won first prize
- Mahalakshmi of II BA participated in a bridal make-up competition organized by Hindustan College of Arts and Science on March 3, 2023 and won the first prize.
- Elakkiya of I BA won the second prize in the Face Painting Competition on 27th of January, 2023 at Loyola College.
- Ramya. N of III BA won the third prize in the Ramp Walk conducted by Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women on February 7, 2023.
