Natya 5 Years Integrated Course
INCEPTION
The Department of Natya was established in the year 2005 with the guidance of Padma Bhushan Padmasri Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. This Department offers a five year integrated MA course which can be pursued either as BA Natya (three year course) or MA course (5 year Integrated course). This is the only college in chennai offering this kind of holistic degree.
OBJECTIVE
- M.A Natya degree is structured to provide a strong foundation in Natya Sastra and to offer a holistic knowledge on the theory and practice of 108 Karanas.
- To gain in-depth knowledge on Core subjects like Carnatic music, Bharathanatyam, drama and allied subjects like yoga, philosophy, history, temples architecture, etc.,.
- To Inculcate the tradition of Guru parampara to the students along with its importance of professional approach towards the art form.
- To emphasize and mold the students into holistic artists and to perform, teach and conduct nattuvangam with confidence.
- To source them with workshops by senior and experienced personalities from different art fields and to conduct certificate courses to improve their technical skills.
- To improve the overall potential of the students and make them reach high standards in the art field.

SEMINARS, CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS
- An International webinar on “ Research Methodology on Music and Dance” was Conducted during the Academic year 2022-2023 on 15.10.2022. Various Resource persons from the Dance and Music field explained with various research methods and the variety of sources available till date and the method of finding new things and recording in a proper way.
- A Workshop on Odissi was conducted by Sanhita Basu Ghose, Director, Konark Odissi Dance Academy between 27.07.2022 and 28.07.2022.
- A Workshop on Gaudiya Nritya was conducted by Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, Former Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, Rabindra Bharati University on 30.07.2022.
- A Workshop on Mohiniyattam was conducted by Kalaimamani Gopika Varma, Director, Dasyam on 03.08.2022
- A Workshop on Kuchipudi was conducted by Kalaimamani Sailaja, Director, Saila Sudha Dance Academy on 04.08.2022.
- A Kathak Workshop was conducted by Ms. Swati Ashish Potulwar between 08.02.2022 and 09.08.2022.
- Sadir Spired Workshop was conducted by Padmasri Muthukannammal a senior Devadasi of Viralimalai in Trichy and her Disciple Dr. Swarnamalya between 23.08.2022 and 24.08.2022.
GUEST LECTURES
Guest lecture on “Lets Talk Desires” was organized between 14.02.2023 and 15.02.2023. The resource person was Dr. Anita Vallabh, Affiliate faculty, Theatre and Dance Department, University of Hawaii.

- Ms. Rohini 1st Year MA Natya have participated in Quiz conducted by Guru Nanak College.
- Ms. Mythreyi, Ms. Aiswarya and Ms. Harini have won second prize in the group singing competition conducted by SSS Jain college.
- Ms. Keerthana 1st Year MA Natya has won 1st prize in Doodle Art.
