LABORATORIES

BIOCHEMISTRY

The Department of Biochemistry boasts state-of-the-art laboratories dedicated to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, featuring cutting-edge equipment and facilities to stay abreast of advancements in research. Our infrastructure includes a range of specialised instruments essential for conducting comprehensive experiments in these fields.

Our laboratories are equipped with Thermocyclers, allowing for precise temperature control during polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification processes. Additionally, we have High-Speed Refrigerated Centrifuges capable of spinning samples at high velocities while maintaining low temperatures, crucial for various molecular biology applications.

For spectroscopic analysis, we have UV Spectrometers available, enabling accurate measurement of nucleic acid and protein concentrations. Both manual and digital Colorimeters are provided for quantitative analysis of biochemical reactions, ensuring precise results.

Maintaining optimal pH levels is essential in biochemical research, and our laboratories are equipped with pH metres for accurate pH measurements. We also provide both electronic and physical balances for precise weighing of reagents and samples.

For sample preparation, we offer Tissue Homogenizers, facilitating the disruption of tissues for further analysis. Various electrophoresis techniques are supported, including Vertical and Horizontal Electrophoresis systems, essential for separating nucleic acids and proteins based on size and charge.

Advanced blotting techniques such as Southern and Western Blotting kits are available for the detection and analysis of specific DNA or protein sequences. Our chromatography capabilities include Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and Paper Chromatography, offering versatile options for separating and analysing complex mixtures of biomolecules.

UV Transilluminators are provided for visualising nucleic acids following gel electrophoresis, while Magnetic Stirrers are available for homogeneous mixing of solutions. This comprehensive array of equipment ensures our laboratories are well-equipped to facilitate groundbreaking research in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
