About The Course
INCEPTION
- The Department of Commerce was instituted in 1996. The Course in Accounting & Finance has been offered since 2007
OBJECTIVES
- The B.Com (Accounting & Finance) degree is structured to provide a strong foundation in accounting and finance theory and practice and also to gain an in-depth knowledge on core subjects like Portfolio Management, Capital Markets, Income Tax Law & Practices just to name a few.
- The Course places special emphasis on addressing real-life business issues where students are exposed to case studies and specific problems drawn from the Industry and encourages them to find solutions for the same. It includes discussion on the latest developments in the business world.

CERTIFICATE COURSE
- The Department offers a 20-hour course on Emerging Trends in E-Commerce for second year students.
SEMINAR
- On 6 February 2020 State Level Seminar on “Industry 4.0 – Change to Transform” organised by Pentagon- The School of Business Studies.
GUEST LECTURE
- On 19th August 2019 Dr. Reena R, Head, Department of Commerce (International Business and Corporate Secretaryship), Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, Coimbatore delivered a Guest Lecture on “Indian Business Scenario and the need for Entrepreneurship”.
- On 24.02.2020, Mrs. S.Renuka Devi , Chartered Accountant from Truecept Academy, Chetpet, delivered a Guest Lecture and worked out problems relating to the topic “Deductions ” from Income tax .
INDUSTRIAL VISIT
On 04.07.19 III year students were taken to Chennai Port Trust which is one of the oldest and biggest commercial ports in India. Port trust officials explained the process of loading and unloading of goods in cargo ships and explained about various documents required for export and import.

- On 24.01.2020 CA.V.V. Sampath Kumar, Partner, M/S .V.V.S.Kumar& Co., Chartered Accountants released the Department Magazine COMM – ZINE.

- On 12.07.2019 ‘Guess the word’ on Commerce terms was conducted for III year students.
- On 12.07.2019 ‘Let me check your IQ level’ (quiz) was conducted for III year students on Banking and Finance terms.
- On 12.07.2019 ‘Play with words’ (puzzle) on accounting terms was conducted for the I year students.
- On 01.08.2019 ‘Group Discussion’ on current topics was conducted for the III year students.
- On 16.08.2019 ‘Dumb Charades’ on Commerce terms was conducted for the lll year students.
- On 16.08.2019 ‘Connexions’ an event based on terms related to different brands and IT Company was held.
- 30.08.2019 ‘Guess the company name through their tagline’ was conducted for the l year students.
- On 10.12.2019 ‘Word Building’ was conducted for the I Year Students.
- On 10.12.2019 ‘Commerce Quiz’ was conducted for the III Year Students.
- On 16.12.2019 ‘Helen Keller’, a competition especially to encourage speech and hearing impaired students was conducted for the II Year Students.
INTER DEPARTMENT COMPETITION IN COLLABORATION WITH PLACEMENT CELL
On 25th September 2019 “NEGOTIUM 2K19” was organised in collaboration with Placement Cell. “Product Packaging” Inter Departmental Competition was conducted. The event was judged by Dr. Latika, Head, Department of Business Administration & HRM and the prizes were distributed by Ms.Rajyashri Iraianbu, Director, Placement & Training.
INTERNSHIP
Students were sent to TNSC Bank, SBI Insurance Co,Chennai Port, All India Radio, Damodaran Associates and Lotus Integrated Logistics for internship .
STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENT
- Mubeena Fathima M, of III B.Com (A&F) have secured prizes in various events in the Intercollegiate Fest Shreyas ’19 organised by Shri Shankarlal Jain College for Women, on 23 & 24, September, 2019.
- On 24& 25, August,2019 ApsaanaBanu J, Sangeetha V, Sowmiya V of III B.Com (A&F) and Janaki.K of I B.Com(A&F) secured second place in State level intercollegiate hand ball tournament Nazreth Alumni Trophy conducted by Nazreth College of Arts and Science.
- Dhanalakshmi II B.Com(A&F) and Meghavarshini III B.Com(A&F) have secured First place in Euphonics organised by Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women.
- ApsaanaBanu J, Sangeetha V, Sowmiya V of III B.Com (A&F) and Janaki K of I B.Com(A&F) have won in The University of Madras –A Zone Handball tournament held at Chellammal College on 17.09.2019.
- ApsaanaBanu J, Sangeetha V, Sowmiya V of III B.Com (A&F) and Janaki K of I B.Com(A&F) have won the first place in WCC Trophy Tournament in Handball held during the year 2019-20.
- On 5th & 6th December, 2019 Priyanga .S of I B.Com (A&F) won III Place in Kho-Kho Competition Conducted by JBAS College.
FACULTY ACHEIVEMENT
- Ms. Nirmala. E published a research paper in UGC Approved International Indexed Journal “Studies in Indian Place Names” on the topic of “Validity of Factors Determining Consumer Attitude Towards Durable Products in Chennai” with Impact factor 5.3 in Volume -40 – Issue – 1st January, 2020.
- Ms. Nirmala.E published in an International open access UGC Journal of Emerging Technologies and Innovative Research on “ Role of Demographics in the Behavioural Changes of consumers – A study with reference to durable products in Chennai city” with ISSN 2349-5162 in volume 6 Issue 4, April 2019 with impact factor 5.87.
- Ms. Jeeva. V published a research article titled “Consumer Behaviour Towards Green Technology and its Impact in Marketing Home Appliances” in the University of Malaysia in September, 2019.
